1945
A body of people in the Niles Community formed the Niles First Church of the Nazarene. This church grew and eventually established itself in a building erected at the corner of Niles Boulevard and Nursery Avenue. Many people found relationships with Christ and a holiness Body of faith was established. The Church officially renamed itself Fremont First Church of the Nazarene in 1973.
1965
A group of believers in the central section of the brand new city of
Fremont, CA (formed July 23, 1956 by the merger of five small
communities, Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose, Niles and Warm
Springs) met together in the home and Jim and Martha Mardis to create
a new church, Fremont Central Church of the Nazarene. The new church
was incorporated on September 20, 1965 under Pastor John Fabrin.
Eventually, this group was able to purchase a piece of property facing
Mowry Avenue between Blacow Road and Fremont Boulevard. Portions of
the original tract were sold off to enable the congregation to build,
in two phases, the church property which now stands at 39009 Cindy
Street, Fremont, CA.
1988
The two bodies, Fremont First Church of the Nazarene and Fremont
Central Church of the Nazarene, under the pastoral leadership of
Revs. Jim Kent and Robert Denham, merged to become a single Body
residing at the Central church property and under the pastoral
leadership of Rev. Denham, and collectively known as Fremont Central
Church of the Nazarene.
2006
A Spanish language preaching point was established to meet in the
Central Church property. The planting pastor was Rev. Juan Hernandez
of the Hayward, CA Casa de Aracion congregation. The newly formed
congregation was known as Cuidad del Refugio. Pastor Douglas Soto was
the first pastor, shortly replaced by Pastor Rosa Palma.
2007
The Central Church congregation, under Pastor Joe Shreffler, elected
to change their name in order to indicate a new direction to the
community. The church became Fremont Journey of Faith, a Church
of the Nazarene.
2008
Cuidad del Refugio, under Pastor Rosa Palma's leadership, voted to
become a part of the Fremont Journey of Faith congregation. Pastor
Joe Shreffler led the Journey of Faith family in accepting these new
brothers and sisters, and Journey of Faith became a single unified
congregation. The Spanish Language congregation became known as
Fremont Camino de Fe, una Iglesia del Nazareno.
